Sustainability

Little by little. Lasting difference.

Sustainable Development is a natural fit with what we do and how we do it. Wherever and however possible, we apply sustainable practices in all aspects of our business. It’s our long term strategy and we continually look to make improvements.

It’s part of our language

We constantly raise awareness of sustainability within our company. Our internal communication and education programme ensures that sustainability is part of our culture.

Purchasing strategy

We use recycled and more environmentally responsible office products and materials, and have significantly increased our use of recycled paper.

We’ve signed up

We have carried out self-assessment under the Government’s Flexible Framework for Procurement and we have also signed up to the Mayor of London’s Green Procurement Plan.

Talking to the right people

We're working hard to remain at the leading edge of sustainability, and we're continually talking with organisations such as GroundWork, Action Sustainability and London Remade, ensuring we receive appropriate guidance and direction for improving our sustainability performance.

Being recognised

We have won a Green Apple environmental award for our work at Stoke Schools to reduce energy consumption and reduce water usage.

Looking to the future

We are implementing performance indicators, objectives and targets to measure and focus our efforts on sustainability. This will tie in with our Carbon Footprint measurement scheme which has been a key activity for us and fits with the requirements of our Environmental Management System (ISO 14001).

Group wide

We are part of Balfour Beatty's Group-wide initiative to establish a common framework for delivering our services in a consistently sustainable manner.
